What is Media Studies?

The Integrated Media Studies classes are mandatory, trimester, non-elective courses, grades 9-11 that are integrated into the cultural history curriculum. In all the Media Studies courses, students learn to deconstruct and construct media via collaborative and individual projects and activities, production, discussion, and written reflection. This is a double-period class.

Artistic statement:

People get distracted in life with stupid things. We are more concerned about money and the materialist aspects in life, though we are well aware about the struggles that the world is facing. In my opinion, it’s an illusion. This illusion is that if we make are lives more comfortable, if we make sure that our lives are perfection, the world will just fall into place. But in reality we need to start by facing the truth. Using our resources and sharing it with people in need. The different language in my collage symbolizes that the world needs to work together to overcome these issues. If we ignore the hunger issue in Africa, if wont just go away, the blue firework that the children are reaching out for symbolizes hope. The Brain stuck to the flowers and next to chains, means that humans are sensitive creatures, and that we need to treat people in the most humane way possible. It’s just as wrong to physically hurt someone, as it is to emotionally hurt someone. People are constantly being judged by their image. The person with the all blue face says nothing about his personally, you cant tell if he’s a god or bad person inside, though people will look at his skin color and automatically judge him as weird, not normal, and unapproachable. Whereas he women with the evil head coming out of her, would be seen as pretty and normal. Though her inner beauty is hideous. I added in the corner of my collage a section strictly about violence; this is because I don’t believe in war. Nothing should have to resort into violence. “If we do not end war, war will end us” is a quote I use that I completely agree with. The lives lost are not worth the victory and it’s sad that this is what our world has to do to overcome their issues.
