Artist Statement:For my self-portrait I wanted to represent myself as an abandoned puppet because I don’t believe in conforming to what society wants me to be like. The puppet is an interpretation of a person who is lead by a higher power and is under their control, and how I have been left there, tangled in the branches because I didn’t want to comply. People have been thrust into the world each uniquely their own, despite how they appear to the onlooker’s eye and I think they should remain true to that.
Trial & Error:I shot this in the park across from my building in the city and I had to enter the rat-infested bushes that are off-limits to people. I had to construct the manipulator out of a pant hanger and struggled to deconstruct it. Also, to tie all the strings to the manipulator and to myself was very difficult even with the help I got. By the time we were all set up for the picture it had gotten cloudier and darker, and I was using a Polaroid so I had play around with the light in Photoshop.
omghee photo credzzz! peace love and turdsss! xoxo
ReplyDeleteaaahhh this is so cool! I was actually going to do something for my portrait that had to do with a human puppet but I decided it would be too difficult, so props for doing this it turned out really cool!
