My self-portrait features a photograph of the forest outside of the senior building, with a picture of me in various sizes sticking horizontally out of trees as branches. Two main aspects of me are represented here; the first is my fascination with creepiness and how the imagination and mind work in creepy or scary situations, constantly inventing fears of things and places, and how our logical side works against us, convincing us that it is possible for this irrational fear to exist, and where they could. The second, symbolized by the beautiful forest scene and smaller photos of me forming branches, is a combination of randomness and nature. I have always had a love of randomness; I used to write stories about the most random things I could think of. The photo branches are random, as you never know where another branch will stick out of a tree, at least to us. The second part of this is simply an interest in nature, and that while technology is nice, we should do what we can to preserve the natural beauty there is, as man-made beauty isn’t constant; It can sometimes take many tries to make something beautiful, which will only be temporary, but nature will continue to replace itself with more beauty in our eyes.
It was difficult taking the right photo of the forest because many that I took were off balance, with too many trees in one place or side, and not enough on the other. I ended up taking about 20 photos in two locations to get the right one. Another difficulty was Photoshop. It was hard to get the branches look like branches and to be the right size and shape,
