What is Media Studies?

The Integrated Media Studies classes are mandatory, trimester, non-elective courses, grades 9-11 that are integrated into the cultural history curriculum. In all the Media Studies courses, students learn to deconstruct and construct media via collaborative and individual projects and activities, production, discussion, and written reflection. This is a double-period class.

In my self-portrait I am trying to portray a new realization of myself. This year is the year that I am trying to figure out what I want to do and how I want to live. I have to make my own path from what is given. That’s why I am facing a field; I have to cut my own path into it. The Milky Way is placed on the photo representing how our galaxy is patiently waiting for me to make my move. Everything in our universe is inspiring and moving me forward, and that’s why the Milky Way is photo shopped behind me.

Trial and error:

I shot many photos of different ideas, but the resolution on them wasn’t good, and they were too small. I decided to use one of my other ideas, and that one worked out perfectly.

This photo was taken by a friend of mine, in a field near my house. I fixed the original photo in Photoshop, on camera raw. I then found a picture of the Milky Way and placed it on top of my photo. I changed the opacity so it blended in. I moved the image around to find the place where I liked it most. I had no problem whatsoever creating my image. I have lots of knowledge on how to use Photoshop.
