Artist Statement
My self-portrait shows me in my boarding room in front of a door. I am two times on that picture, one the left side, you can sea my face, and the other side you can only sea the back of my head. It represents that the people only know half of me. The back of me should represent the unknown. The other side represents me, you can see how I look like. People see me how they know me. The front and back side should represent the different sides, how or what people sea in you without knowing you, and the side they don’t know and probably never know. It also represents two characters, I think that every human being has two characters, one what he shows and one that he is. The left side of the picture represents the one that I show, but when I turn around I might be a completely different person. Nobody knows. The white spot between my shoulders say, that the two different characters or two different sites are connected. In my opinion, I think that the second character shows the opposite of the character you show. To know the opposite you need to know what you are. And this knowledge is the connection between the two characters. The white wall I stand in front should maybe represent life. Because it is white, you can design it however you want , but the door in the middle can open and destroy the piece of art. It might bring something good but also something bad. The white wall is the way I think people should live. Design your own life. People are too much controlled by other people.
Trial & Error
I got the idea of 2 characters and 2 sites when I was alone in my room thinking about what I can do for my self-portrait what also reflects me. I had problems because I didn’t know how to represent it in a photo. I think I should use a different location next time.
