What is Media Studies?

The Integrated Media Studies classes are mandatory, trimester, non-elective courses, grades 9-11 that are integrated into the cultural history curriculum. In all the Media Studies courses, students learn to deconstruct and construct media via collaborative and individual projects and activities, production, discussion, and written reflection. This is a double-period class.

New Life and Death Collage

Artist Statement:

My collage is based on a concept of life and death. It’s centralized around a baby looking up to it’s right. On one side of the baby there are colourful images of things relating to life and the experience of being on Earth. The other side has black and white pictures of death and war. The baby is seen looking towards the life images, showing that it will become a person who takes opportunities and enjoys life over death and destruction.

Philosophical Statement:

This collage the way I think life should be lived: by taking opportunities and living to the fullest extent. If one lives close-mindedly, they are not really living, but breezing through life like it’s nothing. Living this way could also lead more quickly to death in some form, either literally or metaphorical death. Living to the full extent means that at the end of your life, you have stories to tell and fewer mountains to climb.
