What is Media Studies?

The Integrated Media Studies classes are mandatory, trimester, non-elective courses, grades 9-11 that are integrated into the cultural history curriculum. In all the Media Studies courses, students learn to deconstruct and construct media via collaborative and individual projects and activities, production, discussion, and written reflection. This is a double-period class.

Philosophical paragraph

Time, is it just an illusion? Why is it that sometimes (note the irony) times goes so fast, you don’t even notice it? Or sometimes you just look at the clock, and one hour later you look at the clock again and then see that only five minutes have passed? I think it’s just a way to perceive life; a way to help us make sense of something that does not make sense. Is it faster or slower in certain parts of the universe, or the same everywhere? Is it faster to some people and slower to others? How can we explain such phenomenon?

Why do people think that intelligence means that they know a lot; or when they don’t know something they say they are “dumb and not intelligent”. That’s clearly not what it means. In my opinion, intelligence refers to what you know and what you do with what you know, how you solve problems with what you know; not how much you know. It’s like technology. Technology does not only mean computers, or cellphones, or spaceships. “Technology is the making, usage, and knowledge of tools, machines, techniques, crafts, systems or methods of organization in order to solve a problem or perform a specific function.” If you ask someone about pre-history they may never classify a spear or paint for cave paintings as technology. It was clearly technology (at least of that era). Intelligence is the same, is using what you know to solve a problem or answer a question.
