What is Media Studies?

The Integrated Media Studies classes are mandatory, trimester, non-elective courses, grades 9-11 that are integrated into the cultural history curriculum. In all the Media Studies courses, students learn to deconstruct and construct media via collaborative and individual projects and activities, production, discussion, and written reflection. This is a double-period class.

My Philosophy

By Kendall Coleman

My Philosophy is based on the sensitivity of people’s feelings; it’s about treating people like people, in the most humane way possible. Throughout my life I’ve tried to be respectful and considerate as I can be. I am very blessed to have the family and friends who have helped me form a philosophy by their guidance and experience as I begin my life. One saying I’ve been told since I was in pre-school is don’t judge a book by its cover. It’s important to not only judge a person by their cloths, or there hair or if they’re “good-looking”, what matters is there inner beauty. Another concept I believe in is treating others, as you would want to be treated. It isn’t okay to treat people poorly and expect them to treat you in a respectful way in return. To get respect, you need to show respect. It’s important to see things from other people’s perspective.

Don’t manipulate to get ahead in life. You want everyone to be on your side, tricking people into doing things that you will benefit off of isn’t an accomplishment. Another concept I believe is take time to appreciate the beauty in life. In today’s world phones, computers, and TVs distract people from stepping outside and admiring the beauty of our earth. We take to many things for granted. Many of us have no idea how blessed we our. This can only lead to being materialistic. If we don’t understand how good we have it in life, we will keep wanting more, and more. Life isn’t about money, and who has the nicest things.

I believe that nothing should result in violence, ever. I think that there shouldn’t be war. An argument shouldn’t have to come to the point where people are getting hurt or dying, because when it results into violence, no one wins. Being hypocritical is common in ones lifetime. Many of us tell other people not to do bad things, but later in life we do exactly that. Some of us don’t even realize it. For example an adult can tell a child not do complain, but adults complain too, just about different things. I think no matter how old someone is, they can still act like a child. I still haven’t figured out what I want to be when I’m older. I don’t really have one passion, or one thing that I’m in love with. But when I figure out what I love to do, I’m going to become the best at it. Because when you find a passion, you should run with it and never let anyone tell you, you can’t do something.
