10 Grade Media Studies

My personal philosophy is that everything happens for a reason, and there are no coincidences. I think of myself as a spiritual person, although I am not religious. My father passed away when I was little, and I always thought he went to Africa when he died. I filled in the Africa in this collage with a piece of writing about when he went to Africa when he was alive. I've always believed in reincarnation, and reincarnation occurring in Africa is a rastafari view. On top of the writing I wrote my family tree, because family and history is incredibly important to me. I love hearing stories told by my relatives. I put the cutout of the superwoman barbie because I think that's the role so many women have in society. I feel as if that role has been imposed on me, but I try to balance it with having fun and enjoying life. The before and after photos of the woman lying in the water at the beach, was put because life is always changing and as people we're just going through the motions. I put the flowers and the animals and the cutouts of biomes because nature is so important. I believe in being your own person, which is why I put the cutout of "Don't be a Statistic," and "Stupidity is Spreading." I placed ethnic textiles around the collage because I think engaging with different cultures is important for growing as a person.
